平田羽山が書を施した、直径約7.5cmの灯明皿です。
線香立てとしても。
灯明皿は、皿に菜種油などの油を入れ、中央に立てた、こよりや綿芯に火を灯して使います。皿に油を7～8分目まで注ぎ、芯を安定して油を染み込ませ立ててから点火し、使用後は完全に消火して油が冷めてから片付けるのが基本的な使い方です。
停電時にも食用油で簡単に明かりを灯すことができます。
