Description
村上木彫堆朱は新潟県無形文化財に指定されている伝統的な工芸品です。
古くから天然漆の生産地として知られた新潟:村上地方へは約600年前京都から寺院建築に来た漆工が漆技法を伝えたと言われています。堆朱には漆を幾重にも塗り重ねるという意味があります。堆朱は中国の唐の時代に始まった技法で鎌倉時代に日本（京都）に伝わりました、中国堆朱は朱漆・黒漆を6～10㎜くらい漆を塗重ねその厚みの層に彫刻をして仕上げる工芸品です。村上木彫堆朱はこの中国から伝わった技法とは異り木地に彫刻を施し漆を塗り重ねていく漆器です。
